IIn this chapter, the situation of the world at the time Christ came, is outlined. Providence had allowed the development of one ruling power, and one language that was understood widely.
The Jewish people had been spread among the nations, carrying the Old Testament scriptures with them, and thus introducing others to those truths. The Jewish religion itself was in great need of spiritual renovation. Even the systems of heathenism were losing their attraction.
Sin had become widespread and all-engrossing, and with it, came sicknesses of the most debilitating kind. The world was ripe for the coming of the Deliverer.
