This chapter covers the period of persecution in the early Church, from the times of the apostles until around 300 A.D., when the church lowered it’s standard and adopted worldly and pagan customs.
The strong lesson of this chapter is that persecution ceases when the church is seduced into the idolatry of temporal prosperity and worldly honor. Therefore, if there is no persecution now, then it is only because Christians are no longer a threat to Satan’s kingdom.
