This chapter covers the first Passover that Jesus attended, at the age of twelve. On this visit, as he watched the ceremonial sacrifices, he began to understand his mission as the Lamb of God.
Later he met in the temple with the religious leaders and in answer to their questions, he unfolded the prophecies in a way they had never heard before. It was during this time that Mary and Joseph left without him, thinking he was among friends. They found him later, in the temple, and upon their reprimand, he simply pointed to God as his Father, and that he was but carrying out his heavenly Father’s will.
Nevertheless, he returned with them and was faithful and obedient until the age of thirty, when he would embark upon his public ministry.
