BC – History and Prophecies of the Laodicean Message
These studies were presented in the fall of 1984. It was officially the camp-meeting in British Columbia, Canada, but the location chosen for the camp was actually in Washington State, USA. Fred wrote in the September 1984 News Review as to how the theme came to be:
The theme this year was on the Laodicean message and the history of its presentation and development. There are many new faces in the group this year who both wished and needed to know where the movement began and how it has developed. Accordingly some had written asking that this material be presented to them. I prayed about this suggestion and felt very comfortable about carrying it out.
So, firstly there was presented the history of the efforts on God’s part to bring about a complete revival and reformation through the teaching of the Laodicean message. The first effort came when the gospel was preached to the Sardis church. The great second Advent movement resulted from this effort, but because of the unnecessary test of the great disappointment, the movement was all but destroyed. It seemed to have little capacity for recovery and sank instead into the Laodicean condition.
In 1856, 1857, 1859, and again in 1888, the Lord made decided efforts to lead His people into a recovery from the condition into which they had sunk. Each attempt failed and so He tried again in the 1950’s. So far this attempt has not been a failure though the possibility must not be overlooked. If this present movement does fail, then the Lord will call another people at another time and place to do what we might have done.
One thing is sure–there will eventually be a people through whom the Lord will finish His work. There are a number of prophecies which declare in advance how this will happen. We studied these and then presented the requested recital of the history of this movement. It proved to be an effective and balanced presentation which had an impact for good which quite surprised me. Thus it was clearly seen that history is being made and prophecy is being fulfilled. We have turned our backs on the desert and we are advancing toward the promised land. Soon we shall cross the Jordan and begin the battle with the beast and his image.
